Across a number of sectors, legal requirements under IEC60335-2-40 (Ed.6) have made air-conditioning system selection more challenging. Moving forward, building services professionals must consider possible leakage issues, refrigerant concentration, as well as room size regulations in their decision-making process. In response, there is now a growing demand for flexible solutions, which ensure compliance with new product-specific standards. Fortunately, through the launch of its new VRV 5 system, total climate solutions specialist, Daikin is able to offer just that.

UNDERSTANDING VRV 5

The new VRV 5 system marks a significant new chapter in light commercial and residential air-conditioning applications. The innovative technology can be used to help reduce CO2 emissions across installations, whilst still providing compliant and effective performance. Benefitting from Shîrudo technology, the VRV 5 system offers consultants and installers a convenient and quick approach to system design and installation at every stage of a project. What’s more, the highly flexible solution is ideal for covering all types of application.

Notably, the VRV 5 system has been developed specifically to use the R-32 refrigerant. The next generation refrigerant carries heat more efficiently than alternative sources and has a lower environmental impact. In fact, the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of the R-32 refrigerant is 71% lower on a system level than alternative sources. Likewise, the VRV 5 system is able to deliver exceptional sustainability over its entire lifecycle thanks to its leading real-life seasonal efficiency. Additionally, the single component refrigerant the system uses is easy to re-use and recycle.

In turn, this combination of outstanding real-life seasonal efficiency, a lower refrigerant charge and the adoption of a lower GWP refrigerant makes VRV 5 a truly sustainable solution. Furthermore, the system has the potential to boost the environmental credentials of customers, whilst still contributing to better indoor environments. This exceptional effectiveness has been third-party certified through a Notified Body (SGS CECEC). To this end, building services professionals can rely on the advanced technology when working towards key climate objectives.

UNDERSTANDING SHÃŽRUDO TECHNOLOGY

The VRV 5 system is so powerful because of its use of Shîrudo technology. The innovative technology encompasses a complete package of advanced developments, all standard, integrated and configured. Thanks to this design, solutions with Shîrudo technology can accommodate rooms as small as 10m², without the need for design considerations, or the need for additional equipment to be installed in the field. As such, the powerful technology is helping to ensure compliance across all rooms, with no need for further studies to be implemented.

So, how does the Shîrudo technology work? Well, in the unlikely event of a refrigerant leak the integrated sensors in the indoor unit will be immediately alerted. The leak detection sensor then activates a local audible and visual alarm integrated into the system’s Madoka controller. Via a field setting, the Madoka controller can be set to alarm only. Alternatively, the Madoka controller can easily integrate a supervisor alarm, or a third party alarm activated by the output of either the outdoor unit, the indoor unit or the Intelligent Touch Manager system.

At the same time, the refrigerant control measures are activated to recover the refrigerant in the outdoor unit. Once the recovered refrigerant is stored in the accumulator the shut-off valves close and the refrigerant is safely contained. As a result, Shîrudo technology can deliver fully flexible performance straight out of the box. Better still, the technology is CB tested and fully compliant to IEC60335-2-40 (Ed.6). Therefore, by adopting systems fitted with the technology, such as VRV 5, building services professionals are investing in a solution designed for the future.

WORKING TOGETHER FOR A BETTER ENVIRONMENT NOW

As well as offering best-in-class design versatility, industry-leading serviceability and exceptional comfort levels, the VRV 5 system is helping building services professionals to plan more effectively for the future. Thanks to the system, professionals across a myriad of sectors are now able to take more significant steps towards creating a better environment for all. As we all become more involved in the battle to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and to promote more sustainable solutions, the standout technology is clearly leading the way in the field of light commercial and residential air-conditioning applications.
