Leeds-based Elm Facilities Management (Elm FM) have chosen BoilerMag to protect the newly installed heating system of a North Yorkshire primary school.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, had an ageing heating system that was long overdue for a replacement. As a business maintaining the working parts of buildings such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, as well as providing minor M&E refurbishment projects and management of associated works, which often include boiler and heating system replacements, Elm FM was perfectly placed to take on the challenge.

Needing to replace the entire existing heating system, including the distribution pipework, heat emitters, and the boiler plant, with the school still being open and operating as normal, the Elm FM team had to plan and coordinate all elements in detail, and do much of the work out of hours.

Isaac Wilkinson, general manager at Elm FM explained: “Something our engineers have seen lots of over the years, are systems installed by others where the boilers fail prematurely due to LTHW water quality and corrosion of the boiler heat exchangers. We see heating water discoloured, with sludge affecting efficiency and performance of the system pumps and/or in extreme cases, causing pipework to clog up and radiators to stop heating up properly. As such we recommend as many stages of protection as possible, including using a BoilerMag for that higher level of protection.”

Elm FM chooses to recommend BoilerMag to its customers and clients, particularly those who are technically engaged with what the company are doing, talking about the benefits and the cost advantage analysis of spending money on system filtration now, as opposed to the ongoing cost of poor efficiency and the cost of early system failure down the line.

Ideal for large heating systems, Boilermag XT prevents the build-up of ferrous oxide in central heating systems, reducing energy bills, increasing boiler life, and reducing maintenance call outs.

Utilising its high-performance flow technology, the Spear & Jackson manufactured BoilerMag XT ensures that virtually all of unwanted debris is removed from the system. With its easy to install and easy to maintain design that helps to maintain optimum heating performance, it’s the ideal solution for those looking to prolong the life and efficiency of large commercial and industrial heating systems.

The range is available from 2” to 12” and operates pressure up to 12 bar. With a large collection capacity, the high-intensity magnetic rods capture even the smallest particles and come with a BoilerMag 10-year warranty.

In addition to installing magnetic filters, Elm FM also promotes regular flushing, sampling and maintenance of inhibitor levels appropriate for each system, whether subject to mixed metals or according to the age of the system as part of its aim to provide customers with long-lasting and robust heating systems.
